We won a price - The Grand Award „The Golden Beggar“ for production and the Lodzermensch project film “Oddźwięk” (Resonances)

On June 20th, 2009 EVA won a price for the production of the film “Resonanzen” (Resonances), the Grand Award „The Golden Beggar“ at the 15th International Festival of Local Televisions (Slovakia).
“Resonances” was directed by Alina Cyranek, Marc Recchia (who also edited), and Guido Rambeck (DOP).

Oddźwięk – Resonanzen
(26 min)
Ten film jest osobistym portretem artystki, ktόra mieszka i pracuje w Łodzi. Filmowcy towarzyszą Annie jako organistce, śpiewaczce chόralnej i grafikowi. W obrazach i wypowiedziach widzimy wewnętrzną walkę bohaterki ze społeczeństwem. Jej własna muzyka określa rytm filmu. Obserwująca kamera pokazuje intymne spojrzenie na wewnętrzne konflikty artystki.

Dieser Film ist eine sehr persönliche Annäherung an eine Künstlerin, die in Lódź lebt und arbeitet. Die Filmemacher begleiten Anna durch ihren Alltag als Organistin, Chorsängerin und Zeichnerin. In Bildern und Interviews zeigen sich die inneren und äußeren Kämpfe der Protagonistin gegen die Gesellschaft und eine Krankheit, die im Verborgenen bleibt. Ihre eigene Musik bestimmt den Rhythmus des Films. Die observierende Kamera gewährt einen intimen Einblick in die Gebrochenheit der jungen Künstlerin.

3rd of April’09 - Screening in Słubice/Poland

The screening of a collection of the Lodzermensch project films in the context of the meeting of “Geschichtswerkstatt Europa” (Stiftung “Erinnerung, Verantwortung und Zukunft“) took place in  Słubice/Poland on April, 3rd 2009.

Further screenings are currently being planned for Frankfurt/Oder, Berlin and Łódz.

Here are Tanja’s first suggestions.

• Israel Joshua Singer, Die Brüder Ashkenasy (Bvt Berliner Taschenbuch Verlag, 2005), first published in 1937. English title: The Brothers Ashkenazi. This book has also been published in Polish, we heard. Biographical notes on Israel Singer, the author and older brother of the famous Singer, Nobel price winner. The novel takes place in Lodz, mostly among the large Jewish community that lived there before World War Two, but also depicts the German community very vividly (caricature). It follows the changes from the 19th century through the revolution of 1905 and ends just after World War One…. highly recommend to get an impression of the era and the smell of the city then. More descriptions here (in German).

• Karl Dedecius, Ein Europäer aus Lodz. Erinnerungen (Suhrkamp, Frankfurt am Main 2006). Dedecius is an important German witness. We could try to contact him - for an interview.

• Oskar Kossmann, Lodz, eine historisch-geographische Analyse (Würzburg, 1966), hard find this book, only antiquarisch. Many interesting historcal photos, many old maps.

• Die Chronik des Gettos Lodz / Litzmannstadt: 5 Bde. (published at Wallstein by Sascha Feuchert et. al.)(German edition) (2007)

• Gdzie sa Niemcy z tamtych lat? Sag mir, wo die Deutschen sind (published by Krystyna Radziszewska)

• Alfred Döblin, Reise in Polen (reportage also about Lodz) (1925)

• Marek Budziarek, Leszek Skrydło, Marek Szukalak, Łódź naze miasto = Unsere Stadt Lodz (2000)
